Ya know, them fancy watches, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ones? Folks say they’re somethin’ special. Limited edition, whatever that means. Sounds like they don’t make a whole heap of ’em. Like my good strawberry jam, only make so much each summer.
Heard tell they got this one called the “Jumbo” Extra Thin. Jumbo and thin? Don’t make no sense to me, but what do I know? Apparently, these watches, they been popular for a good long while. Since, what, 1972? That’s before my Bessie was even born! Folks were goin’ crazy for ’em in 2022, somethin’ about an anniversary.
But now, things changed. People ain’t clamorin’ for ’em like they used to. Used to be you’d wait and wait, like waitin’ for the rain in a dry spell. Now? Couple weeks and you got yourself one. Even if you’re new, ain’t bought one before. Twenty-seven thousand dollars, they say. That’s a lot of hay, let me tell ya.
- They say this Royal Oak watch, it was somethin’ different when it first came out. A maverick, they call it. Don’t rightly know what that means, but sounds like it stood out from the crowd. Like my prize-winnin’ pumpkin at the county fair.
- Then they made more kinds, Offshore, Concept. Pushin’ boundaries, or so they say. Like when I tried puttin’ chili powder in my apple pie. Surprised a few folks, that did.
And now, they got this artist fella, Kaws, makin’ designs for ’em. Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Companion.” Fancy names, ain’t they? Got this one made of titanium, whatever that is. Probably strong, like my old iron skillet.
Look at the inside, all them little parts. Bridges, they call ’em. Blackened, like the bottom of my good pot after a long simmer. But then they write “Swiss” and “39 jewels” on it. And “Audemars Piguet,” of course. Gotta let folks know who made it.
Seems like these watches, they keep changin’, always somethin’ new. Limited edition, this artist, that material. Keeps folks interested, I reckon. Just like how I gotta switch up my preserves every year, keep the customers comin’ back.
So, if you got the money, and you like them fancy watches, maybe this Royal Oak is for you. Limited edition, might be worth somethin’ someday. Or maybe it’s just a shiny thing to tell the time. Me? I’ll stick with my old clock on the wall. Does the job just fine.
