Well, lookie here, got me this shiny new thing, a watch they say. A “smart” watch, whatever that means. Says Apple Watch SE 44mm Midnight Aluminum M/L (2023) on the box. Fancy, huh? Don’t know much about these things, but my grandson says everyone’s got one. So, figured I’d give it a whirl.
It’s big, this watch. Takes up half my wrist! Midnight somethin’ somethin’ color, they call it. Looks black to me. But it’s a nice black, shiny and smooth. Got a strap, too, feels like rubber. Comfy enough, I guess.
Now, the face, that’s where it gets interestin’. Lights up and all! Got numbers, little pictures. My grandson showed me how to poke at it, makes it do different things. He says it can track my walkin’, tells me how far I went. Not sure why I need that, my legs tell me when I’ve walked enough!
- It shows the time, big and clear. That’s good, my eyes ain’t what they used to be.
- Says it can tell me the weather, too. Just gotta poke the right picture. Handy, I suppose, knowin’ if I need my umbrella.
My grandson says it can connect to my phone. Phone? Don’t have one of those fancy things. Just my old landline. He says this watch can get messages and calls. Imagine that! Talkin’ to my wrist! Sounds like somethin’ out of a comic book.
He fiddled with it for a while, set it up for me. Said I gotta charge it sometimes, plug it into the wall. Another thing to remember! Life’s complicated enough, ain’t it?
But I gotta admit, it’s kinda neat. All those little gadgets and gizmos. Makes me feel like I’m livin’ in the future, or somethin’. Even if I don’t understand half of what it does. Maybe I’ll figure it out eventually. Or maybe I’ll just stick to tellin’ time.
This 44mm thing, that’s the size, my grandson says. Big enough for my old eyes. And “Aluminum” means it’s light, doesn’t weigh my arm down. That’s good, I don’t need extra weight these days.
He also mumbled somethin’ about “Bluetooth 5.0.” Sounds like somethin’ they’d use on a spaceship. Don’t know what it means, but if it makes the watch work, that’s fine by me.
The screen, it’s bright and colorful. Shows all sorts of numbers and words. My grandson says it’s got high “resolution.” Another fancy word. All I know is, I can see it good.
It’s got 32GB of somethin’ called “memory.” Don’t know what I’d need all that for. I ain’t plannin’ on storin’ no pictures or movies on my watch. Just wanna know the time and maybe the weather.
He says it can even track my heart rate. Now that’s somethin’ I might use. Keep an eye on this old ticker, make sure it’s still beatin’ right. Funny how a little watch can do all that.
So, this Apple Watch SE, it’s a fancy gadget, alright. Not sure I need all its bells and whistles. But it’s kinda fun to play with. Makes me feel like I’m keepin’ up with the youngsters. Even if I still prefer my old kitchen clock for tellin’ time.
Maybe I’ll learn to use all its features someday. Or maybe I’ll just keep pokin’ at the screen until somethin’ happens. Either way, it’s a conversation starter. Got people askin’ about it, showin’ off my “smart” watch. Makes me feel a little bit modern, even at my age.
