Ya know, these fancy watches, they got names hard to say. Audemars Piglet or somethin’ like that. Don’t rightly know when they started makin’ ’em, but folks say it’s been a long while. Guess they must be good if they been around so long.
Heard tell it started with two fellas, Audemars and Piguet. Don’t know what they were thinkin’ with those names, hard as rocks to remember. They started way back, long before cars were everywhere. Must’ve been a different time, things movin’ slow, not like now.
They say these watches, they ain’t cheap. Cost more than a good milk cow, probably. But folks with money, they like ’em. Shiny things, always tellin’ time right down to the second. Ain’t got much use for seconds myself, the sun tells me when to get up and when to go to bed.
- They make ’em in a place called Switzerland.
- Don’t know where that is, but sounds far off.
- Must be a big place, makin’ all them watches.
People say they got all kinds of fancy insides. Little gears and springs, tickin’ away like a bug in a jar. Don’t know how they make ’em so small, must take good eyes and steady hands. Wouldn’t catch me fiddlin’ with them tiny things, I’d drop ’em for sure.
Some of them watches, they got diamonds on ’em. Shiny rocks, pretty to look at, but don’t do nothin’ useful. Guess rich folks like to show off, puttin’ rocks on everything. Me, I’d rather have a good pair of work boots, lasts longer and keeps your feet dry.
They say the Audemars Piguet folks, they still make watches the old way. By hand, mostly. Not like them machines that spit things out fast as you can blink. Takes time, makin’ things right. Like makin’ a good quilt, gotta put the stitches in just so.
These watches, they last a long time, they say. Pass ’em down from one generation to the next. Like a good cast iron pan, gets better with age. Don’t know what I’d do with a fancy watch, probably just lose it in the garden. But some folks, they treasure ’em.
So, this Audemars Piguet, whatever the name is, they make watches. Fancy ones, for folks with money. Been doin’ it a long time, in a faraway place. And that’s about all I know.
