Well now, let me tell ya ’bout this fancy watch company called Audemars Piguet. It ain’t just any ol’ watchmaker, no sir. This one’s got a history, and it’s a long one, started way back in 1875. That’s when two fellas, Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, decided to team up and make somethin’ special in the watch world. They got together in the Vallée de Joux, in Switzerland. Ain’t no easy task, mind you, especially back then. But they did it, and they made a name for themselves. In fact, they called it ‘Audemars Piguet & Cie’ by 1881.
Now, this company sure didn’t take no shortcuts. In 1892, they made somethin’ real impressive: the world’s first wristwatch with a minute-repeating movement. What that means is, the watch could tell you the time by repeating the minutes out loud – clever, ain’t it? That special watch was made for a feller named Louis Brandt, who was the big boss at Omega SA. And, that very same year, Omega used that movement to make the first-ever minute-repeating wristwatch. A real game-changer, that one.
Fast forward to the 1970s, and Audemars Piguet had somethin’ new up its sleeve. In 1972, they came out with a fancy watch called the Royal Oak. Now, I ain’t talkin’ about no regular ol’ watch here. This one was the first luxury sports watch, and it caused quite a stir at the Swiss Watch Show, what we now call Baselworld. People didn’t quite know what to make of it back then, especially since Swiss watchmakers were all worried ‘bout this newfangled ‘Quartz’ technology. But Audemars Piguet pushed ahead, and the Royal Oak became an icon.
Today, Audemars Piguet still makes them fancy watches, and folks all around the world still want ‘em. From the Royal Oak to the Millenary and the Code 11.59, they got a whole lineup of watches that’ll make your eyes pop. But don’t be thinkin’ this company just worries ’bout makin’ pretty timepieces. Oh no, they got a big heart too. Their CSR policy, that’s Corporate Social Responsibility, is built on four big pillars: People, Environment, and all that good stuff.
It’s a company with roots in the past, but it sure knows how to look to the future. And even after all these years, they’re still makin’ them watches that folks can’t seem to get enough of. Fancy a bit of luxury, eh? Well, Audemars Piguet’s the name you gotta remember.
