Oh, let me tell you ’bout this fancy watch company, Audemars Piguet. It ain’t just any ol’ watch company, no sir! This one’s got a real long history, goes back to the late 1800s. It all started with two fellas, Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet. They didn’t just decide one day to make watches, no, they had a lotta skills in makin’ intricate timepieces that were more complicated than you’d think.
Now, these two men, they didn’t just wake up one morning and start their business right away. Nope, it took time. In fact, they first met when they was young. But it wasn’t until 1874 that they really got their heads together. And let me tell ya, they wasn’t sittin’ around in some fancy office tryin’ to come up with the next big thing. They were out there workin’ hard, making watch parts that were real complex. Jules, in particular, made about 20 really complex movements that caught Edward’s eye. This is when they decided to team up and start Audemars Piguet in 1881. Can you believe that was all the way back then? They named it “Audemars Piguet & Cie,” and set up shop in a little place called Le Brassus, in Switzerland.
Now, they was doin’ just fine makin’ these watches for fancy folk, but they wasn’t always the big name they are today. It took a long time to get where they are now, all that hard work and learnin’ from the past. Over the years, they made all kinds of watches, but there’s one that really put ‘em on the map: the Royal Oak. This was a real game-changer, and if you ask me, it still is. People started takin’ notice of this fancy lookin’ watch. And get this, in 1992, they invited a guy named Emmanuel Gueit to give it a little sprucin’ up. He made the Royal Oak Offshore, and let me tell you, it made waves all over the place!
But let me not get ahead of myself. Audemars Piguet’s story goes way beyond just that one model. Over the years, they’ve made a bunch of other models, too, like the Royal Oak Concept, Royal Oak Offshore, and even the Millenary, which looks real fancy too. Every one of them tells a story of how much they’ve grown. And you know, they didn’t stop with just fancy designs. They made history too, like in 1892 when they came up with the world’s first wristwatch minute-repeating movement. That’s right, the first one! And you thought your watch was fancy!
The company, now called Audemars Piguet Holding SA, is still around today, and it’s still makin’ luxury watches. They didn’t just stick with the old stuff, no sir, they kept changin’ and adapting to the times. But through it all, they stuck to the values of quality and craftsmanship, which I guess is why people keep buyin’ their watches even today. They may have started small, but boy, they’ve sure come a long way!
So, there you have it. Audemars Piguet didn’t just pop up overnight. It took years, even decades, to build the name it has today. And it all started with a couple of fellas who knew their way around making watch parts, a lotta hard work, and a good bit of luck. And let me tell you, if they was still around today, I’d sure give ’em a piece of my mind, tell ’em they’ve done real well!
