Well, let me tell ya, this story starts all the way back in 1875, when two fellas, Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, got together and decided they was gonna make watches. Now, they didn’t just start in any ol’ place, no sir. They started out in the Vallée de Joux in Switzerland, where the air’s cold and the mountains stand tall. If you’ve ever been up that way, you know the kind of place that makes ya wanna get serious ’bout your work.
Now, these two men, they wasn’t just any pair of watchmakers. They were visionaries, real clever ones. They wanted to create watches that was special, ones that folks would remember for years to come. And, by gum, that’s exactly what they did. In 1881, not long after they started out, they went and gave their company the name Audemars Piguet & Cie. Real fancy, right? But they kept it all in the family, and it stayed that way for years and years. Still is, actually.
Over the years, they kept making improvements to their watches, creating some mighty fine pieces. One of the big things they did, way back in 1892, was create the world’s first wristwatch with a minute-repeating movement. Now, what’s that, you ask? Well, I reckon it’s a fancy way of saying that the watch could chime the minutes for ya. Real handy, especially if you was out in the fields or somewhere where you couldn’t keep track of time just by looking at the sun.
Fast forward a bit to today, and Audemars Piguet is still goin’ strong. They’re making some of the finest luxury watches in the world. They’ve got collections like the Royal Oak, the Royal Oak Offshore, and even a real fancy one called the Code 11.59. Those watches ain’t cheap, mind you. But if you’ve got the money, they sure do make a statement.
Now, you might be wonderin’ how many watches they make every year. Well, right now, they’re putting out about 50,000 watches a year, but don’t be surprised if that number goes up. There’s talk of it hittin’ as high as 70,000 one of these days. Seems like folks just can’t get enough of ‘em. And I reckon that’s no surprise, with the kind of history and craftsmanship they’ve got behind ‘em.
But it ain’t all about the fancy designs and the bells and whistles. Audemars Piguet has been a family-owned business since the very start. That’s right, the same folks who founded it are still runnin’ the show. And that, I think, is part of why they’ve lasted so long. When you’ve got family runnin’ things, you know it’s gonna be handled with care, and every watch that comes outta their shop is made with the same love and attention to detail that started the whole thing in the first place.
Now, I don’t know about you, but when I think of fancy watches, I think of Audemars Piguet. They’ve set the bar high, and they’ve been settin’ it high for nearly 150 years. From the moment they started out in that cold little valley in Switzerland, they’ve been workin’ hard to make sure that every watch they make is somethin’ special. And as long as they keep on makin’ ‘em, I reckon they’ll be a name folks will remember for many more years to come.
