Well, today, I’m gonna tell y’all about my little project here. I decided to try my hand at remaking that fancy watch, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. They call it “original order”, and as I got my hands on one, I can see why. This ain’t my usual type of thing, you know. I’m more of a hands-on, practical kind of guy. But I saw that shiny thing, with all its fancy details, and thought, “Why not give it a shot?”

So, first things first, I got myself one of these watches. Man, it felt weird spending that kind of money – $33,110! But I needed it to really understand what I was working with. I spent a good few days just staring at it, taking it apart, and putting it back together. Then I spent a few more days reading up on watch movements, tryin’ to figure out what makes this Patek one tick. I learned a lot about this Calatrava cross thing they use – it’s like their symbol of perfection or somethin’.

The Gathering

  • Getting the Watch: First, I got the actual Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. It was a bit of a splurge.
  • Finding the Right Materials: Then, I spent a bunch of time looking for materials. It wasn’t easy finding stuff that looked and felt like the real deal. I went to a bunch of different stores, comparing metals and other stuff.
  • Tools and Workspace: I had to make sure I had all the right tools. Tiny screwdrivers, tweezers, a magnifying glass – the works. I set up a little workspace in my garage, cleared everything out, and got it all organized.

The Doing

Now came the fun part – actually making the thing. I started by carefully taking the original watch apart. I made sure to document every single step, taking pictures and making notes. Then, using the materials I’d gathered, I started crafting the individual pieces. I had to shape the metal, polish it until it was nice and shiny, and make sure everything fit together just right.

Putting it all together was tricky. Those watch parts are tiny, and it’s easy to mess things up. I remember one time I dropped a screw, and it took me like an hour to find it. But I kept at it, taking my time and making sure everything was perfect. I spent a whole lot of evenings in that garage, just tinkering away.

The Outcome

Finally, after all that work, I had my own version of the Calatrava 6119G-001. It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few little differences here and there. But you know what? It looked pretty darn close to the real thing. And the best part? It actually worked! It kept time just like that fancy original. I gotta say, I was pretty proud of myself. It was a real challenge, but I learned a heck of a lot about watches and how they’re made. Plus, it was just plain fun to build something like that with my own two hands. I did see on the used market it was going for $26,278 but I decided to keep this one for myself.

So, there you have it. That’s the story of how I remade a Patek Philippe watch. It was a wild ride, but totally worth it. Maybe I’ll try another one someday. Who knows?
