Okay, so, I got this wild idea to remake a PRADA bag. Not just any PRADA bag, but the Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather one. You know, the classic style that just screams “I have my life together” even if I really don’t. I saw it online, thought, “Hey, I can do that!” How hard could it be, right? Famous last words.
First thing I did was to watch a bunch of videos online. People were making all sorts of bags, and they made it look so easy. Just cut here, sew there, and boom, designer bag. I felt so pumped, I ordered a bunch of leather online. I went with this Saffiano type because that’s what the real PRADA bag uses. Looked fancy, felt fancy, probably cost a lot more than it should have, to be honest.
When the leather arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I carefully laid it out on my living room floor, because, where else am I going to do this? The dining table was for eating, not crafting. I printed out a pattern I found somewhere on the internet (don’t ask me where, I forget) and started cutting.
- Cutting the leather was the first challenge. This stuff is tough. My regular scissors were no match, so I had to buy some heavy-duty ones. Even then, it was like a workout for my hands.
- Then came the sewing. Oh boy, the sewing. I thought I was pretty good with a needle and thread, but this was a whole different ball game. The leather was thick, my stitches were wonky, and I definitely pricked my fingers more than a few times. There were moments when I seriously considered giving up, ngl.
- The hardware was another issue. Finding the right buckles and zippers that looked like the real deal was a mission in itself. I spent hours online, comparing different styles and prices. I ended up ordering a few different sets because I couldn’t decide.
- Putting it all together. It felt like assembling a complicated puzzle. I realized the pattern wasn’t perfect, so there was a lot of adjusting and improvising. I had to take breaks because my back was killing me and my eyes were crossing from staring at tiny stitches for hours.
It took me weeks, working on and off, but I finally finished it. I stood back, looked at my creation, and you know what? It wasn’t half bad! Sure, it wasn’t perfect. There were some uneven stitches, the edges weren’t as clean as the original, and the lining was a bit messy. But it looked like a bag. A decent-looking bag.
My Own Handmade Bag!
Did it look exactly like the real PRADA Galleria? Nah. But it was mine, I made it with my own two hands, and I was pretty darn proud of it. I even took it out for a spin to the grocery store, and no one looked at me funny. Maybe they thought it was real, who knows? Or maybe they were just being polite. I feel really good!
