Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001 for a while now. You know, the one from their official store. It’s a real beauty, but the price tag? Oof. So, I thought, why not try to make my own?
Getting Started
First, I did a ton of research. I looked up the original design and got to know it inside and out. I mean, every little detail. The federal government and state’s executive branch stuff gave me a good idea of what the overall structure should look like, but finding the small, tiny pieces, especially the gears and the movement parts, was tough. I looked everywhere, like online stores that sell watch parts and even some local shops, even tried some games and flashcards to test and memorize the shape. It took a while, but I finally got everything I needed.
Putting It Together
- First, I started with the movement. This is like the heart of the watch, you know? I carefully put all those tiny gears and springs together.
- Then came the case. I had to make sure it was just the right size and shape. I used some tools to shape the metal, which I had found online that looked similar to what Patek uses.
- Next, the dial. This was one of the hardest parts. I wanted it to look just like the original, with the right texture and color. I practiced a lot on some scrap material before I got it right.

Facing Problems
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were times when things just didn’t fit together right. Like, one time, I messed up the mainspring, and it took me forever to fix it. Another time, I scratched the case, and I had to start all over.
