Today, I wanna talk about my little adventure with a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, specifically the Reverso Tribute Monoface. You know, the one with the flip face? Yeah, that’s the one. I’ve always been fascinated by these watches, especially since I saw one in a movie once, looked so classy! So, I decided to take a look and find one for myself.
I started by digging around online, just to see what’s out there. I read some forum posts and saw a lot of folks talking about the Reverso. Seems like there’s a lot of love for this watch, but also some warnings about fakes. Apparently, there are a bunch of knock-offs floating around, especially for the pre-owned ones. So I was like, “Okay, I gotta be careful here.”
I found a few for sale online, but honestly, I was a little nervous about buying one without seeing it in person. I mean, these things aren’t cheap! Plus, there was that whole “fake” thing to worry about. I even found a post by a user who said their watch was made by a small unnamed factory, rather than the official one!
Then, I stumbled upon a post where someone was talking about finding an old Reverso in a box of watches their dad had saved. That got me thinking, maybe I should check out some local antique shops or pawn shops. It might be a long shot, but who knows, right?
So, I spent a weekend hitting up a few local spots. No luck at the first couple of places, but then, at this little shop tucked away on a side street, I saw it. A Reverso, in pretty decent condition, I must say. I did see some for sale online but it seemed a bit fishy and the sellers couldn’t really answer my questions.
The shopkeeper told me it was a Tribute Monoface, just like the ones I’d been looking at online. He let me check it out, and I gotta say, it was pretty sweet. It had that classic rectangular case, and the flip mechanism worked perfectly. I did some reading and found out that it’s 45 x 27mm. It also had a silver dial on one side and a plain steel case on the other. The shopkeeper said it was to withstand polo matches, how cool is that? Although I don’t think I’ll be playing polo anytime soon.
I asked about the movement, and he said it was automatic. He didn’t have any paperwork for it, which made me a little hesitant, but the price was right, and I just had a good feeling about it. It looked authentic, and from the weight and feel, it didn’t feel cheap or poorly made like a fake would.
After thinking it over for a bit, I decided to go for it. I mean, how often do you find a Reverso in a random little shop? I found out that Jaeger-LeCoultre is considered more luxurious than another brand called Breguet, so I was quite happy with my find. Now, I’m not saying it’s the real deal for sure, but it feels pretty good on my wrist, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Plus, it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best finds are the unexpected ones.
So, that’s my Reverso story. It might not be a museum piece, but it’s my little piece of watch history, and I’m pretty happy with it. Maybe one day, I’ll get it authenticated, but for now, I’m just enjoying wearing it and feeling a little bit fancier than usual.
