Okay, so I’ve been eyeing the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now. You know, the classic one with the open case back? It’s just so freaking cool.
First, I started by digging around online, just to see what the current market is like for these bad boys. Turns out, the vintage ones, especially the “Pre-Moon” models, are super hot right now. They are selling at least $4,000 on average! Prices are going up like crazy. I read somewhere that even the newer models have gone up in price by over 10% in just the last 18 months. It’s insane.
Then, I started looking at some specific models. One that really caught my eye is a reference 311.30. 42.30. 01.005. This is a classic Speedmaster style that everyone knows. This one looks really good. Besides that, some limited editions like the Snoopy or the 007 Seamaster are also really popular. I guess people love that stuff.
But, you know what else I found? This watch is tough as nails. It’s built to handle pretty much anything you throw at it. You don’t even have to worry about everyday use with it. That’s a big plus for me because I tend to be a bit rough on my stuff. The movement was created by Albert Piguet back in 1943, and they started using it in watches in 1946. I think, if it’s good enough for all these years, it’s good enough for me.
I talked to a few collector friends about it, and they all said the same thing – the Speedmaster is a solid investment. I mean, if you can snag one in good shape, it might even be worth more in the future. But honestly, I just want to wear the darn thing.
After doing all this research, I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a Speedmaster. It wasn’t cheap, but man, it’s worth it. I love wearing it, and it feels great on the wrist. Plus, it’s just a cool piece of history.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the OMEGA Speedmaster. If you’re thinking about getting one, I say go for it. Just be prepared to do some digging, and maybe save up a little extra cash. You won’t regret it.
